How iOS campaign tracking works
The App Store ignores UTM parameters. Instead, Apple’s App Analytics recognises two parameters of its own: pt, your provider token, and ct, a campaign token of up to 40 characters that you choose. Links that carry both are reported as campaigns in App Store Connect under App Analytics, with the number of App Store page views, downloads, sessions and sales they produced.

Your provider token is shown in App Store Connect when you generate a campaign link under App Analytics. The mt=8 parameter identifies the link as pointing to a mobile app and is added automatically.
Connecting iOS campaigns to GA4
Apple does not pass campaign tokens on to your app, so GA4 cannot attribute an iOS install to a campaign the way it can on Android. Two practical approaches cover most needs:
- Tag the web step. Send campaign traffic to a landing page on your site with normal UTM tags, then link from that page to the App Store. GA4 records the campaign for the web visit and the outbound click.
- Mirror the naming. Build the campaign token from your UTM values – for example spring_launch_email – so App Store Connect and GA4 reports can be lined up side by side.
Apple Search Ads campaigns are attributed by Apple’s own AdServices framework and do not need these links.
